A Handbell Concert of Cosmic Importance

Nothing in history has ever fired our imaginations quite like the cosmos. We are going to explore music inspired by that which lies beyond our world…everything from Holst’s classic “The Planets,” to “Stairway to Heaven” by Led Zeppelin.

To help us on this journey we are thrilled to present astronaut Jerry Ross. Mr. Ross has more than 1,393 hours in space, including 58 hours and 18 minutes of EVA on nine spacewalks. He was the first human to be launched into space seven times. These seven flights comprise a world record that Mr. Ross now shares with one other NASA astronaut. Mr. Ross has written two books about his experiences, one for adults and one for children. After the show audience members will be able to purchase these books and get them autographed by the author!

Then it’s time to go to the roof. Members of the Astronomy Department at Lone Star College will set up telescopes and guide you in some serious star-gazing. Maybe you will be inspired to write the next stellar composition!
